Ah, the Olympics. A time for competition, a time for honor, a time for sequins. I don’t know about you, but as much as I love myself some men’s downhill skiing something I love even more than that is what they’re wearing.
Johnny Weir may not have been competing this year but he was definitely competing for most costume changes at the Olympics. He gave us multiple looks from Cabaret singer in sequins to ‘70s-fur-MacDaddy and finally to leather suited biker. I’m not sure but does standing in front of a semi mean he’s trying to stop traffic or simply trying to get pulled over by the fashion police?
Ice skating may have been missing Johnny, but it more than made up for it in some of the most beautiful and interesting costumes the games have yet to see.
The new darlings of ice dancing, gold medal winners Meryl Davis and Charlie White, not only won the games but won in the fashion department as well. Meryl’s now famous purple beaded costume has been floating around the cover of every website and newspaper since.
Rivals Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir from Canada looked elegant with Tessa in red and Scott in classic black.
Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov of Russia looked dazzling in a 1920s inspired theme.
With so many stunning looks at the Olympics it’s clear we’ve come a long way from the days of blue spandex and leg warmers. And then this happened… Danielle O’Brien and Gregory Merriman from Australia popped on the ice in these matching neon colored costumes. They certainly have the charisma to pull them off but, looking at them all I can imagine is Gregory begging for less color and his costumer throwing some dark grey pants at him yelling, “You’ll wear these then!” Sorry Greg.
One of my favorite costumes by far happened right before the Olympics started as a joke from Olympic gold medalist Tara Lipinski. She spoofs the famous movie, The Big Lebowski with a brown robe and white Russian cocktail in hand at Rockefeller Center. Classic.
Norway’s curling team wore zig-zazzy suits for Sochi. Channeling team spirit in the form of a barbershop quartet they seem a happy bunch. A team that zigs’s together, zag’s together.
Hubertus von Hohenlohe brings pride to the games. Appearing comfortable in his skintight unitard and ready to represent Mexico he stands proud and ready to conquer the slopes. Ole!
I know everyone wasn’t a fan of the Ralph Lauren sweaters that team USA wore for the opening ceremonies, but I beg to differ. Nothing is more American than Ralph Lauren. I think my grandma would love this sweater sitting on her porch overlooking the ocean in the Hamptons. What? Isn’t that where your grandma lives?
France you out did yourself and are we surprised? You are the birthplace of fashion. We’d only expect the very best from you and that’s what we got. Your light grey coats paired with a classic khaki trouser makes both your men and women look ready to compete hard during the day and relax with a scotch at night. C’est magnifique.
The Olympics were full of ups and downs. Medals were won and endorsement deals made. While not everyone may have won the fashion Olympics, some of them won our hearts with great sportsmanship and some pretty entertaining outfits. You sure did give us a chance to root for our country and recharge a little of our patriotism. For that Winter Olympics I thank you and look forward to more interesting fashion from you the next time around.

There are some attention-grabbing time limits on this article but I don’t know if I see all of them heart to heart. There is some validity however I’ll take hold opinion till I look into it further. Good article , thanks and we wish extra! Added to FeedBurner as well
