Make The High-Waisted Trend Work For You

Make The High-Waisted Trend Work For You

Fashion trends are tricky. Everyone has their own style and can dress however to flatter their bodies and personalities. Trends, on the other hand, seem to dictate what’s hot to wear right now and what’s not. So what are you to do? Simple: wear what you want and don’t think trends limit you, your body, or your style. The high-waisted trend is sometimes considered to be flattering on some. However, if a woman likes a trend, she should make the trend work for her, not the other way around. Sian, from Girl, Inbetweenied, gives us tips:

Don’t you love when you find something that is amazingly flattering AND a great price? I typically don’t go into Forever 21 for clothes because, well, it just doesn’t quite fit me because of my inbetweenie size. I’m not plus sized, so their plus size line is too big, and the straight sizes run pretty small. I moseyed in there about a week ago, and saw these high-waisted, wide-leg pants and thought they were so cute and perfect for fall. I crossed my fingers they would fit, and they did!! Yah! Bonus — the price was right at $18.

It got me thinking about how to wear the high-waisted look. High-waisted pants and skirts can be a challenge for us curvy ladies. Here are some tips for finding the right high-waisted items. Also, don’t forget to follow me on snapchat username girlinbetweenie.

    1. In a pant, go for a wide-leg like I did with these. You want a pant that creates a straight line from your hip to your ankle — it’s really slimming. No mom jeans please!
    2. In a skirt, look for something that also goes straight down. Here are some additional tips on how to pick out a high-waisted  pencil skirt from a previous post.
    3. Make sure the fit is perfect! If they are too tight or loose — they will add weight to your hips/stomach.
    4. Pick a  streamlined top that fits close to your body or go for a crop top. Since the pant or skirt is high-waisted, you can do a crop top without showing any skin!
    5. Make sure your girls are sitting up high — you don’t want your chest to blend into your waist. Repeat after me…there must be  separation between my chest and waist.
