Thousands Of Kids Have Their Lunch Debts Paid By Good Samaritans

We’re finally living in a world where bullies don’t steal lunch money, but instead kind strangers pay off school lunch debt. Every day, over 100,000 schools feed about 30.5 million students, majority of whom qualify for reduced or free lunches. However, many of these students will still face debt from the inability to pay for lunch. People from all corners of the United States are partaking in a new trend that is helping thousands of families by paying off their children’s school lunch debt. A survey by State of School Nutrition reported that 76% of the United State’s school reported unpaid lunch debt, which can result in the schools limiting students’ ability to buy lunch or offering alternatives such as cheese sandwiches with milk.

The movement to pay off these debts was initially sparked by Ashley Ford, a writer from New York, who mentioned on Twitter that this is a small yet impactful way to give back and genuinely help people from your community in need. As a result, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been donated to schools throughout the country. Parents can rest easy knowing that their kids are able continue using the lunch programs without any embarrassment of overdue payments.

So, if you’re in need of good karma or just want to perform an act of kindness, call a local school and see if there’s any debt to be paid.
