Without a doubt, women were the highlight of the State of the Union on Tuesday night. The president’s speech contained much of the same infamous rhetoric that’s characteristic of his administration for the last two years. However, the crucial difference at this SOTU from previous ones is the presence of the newly elected congresswomen from last November’s midterms. Many congresswomen and other female attendees at the SOTU wore white in honor of the suffragists and demonstrated their solidarity with one another against President Trump. When the president noted how there was an increase of women in the workforce and in Congress, excitement and celebration slowly began to build, to the point that it caught him off-guard. It was easily the most powerful moment of the night and certainly earned the hashtag, #StateoftheWoman. See our favorite social media posts about the event below.
Look who we stumbled upon! Honored to join @SpeakerPelosi and my #SOTU guest Yasmin Ali in wearing white to pay respect to Suffragettes as we continue our fight for #equalpay and equal opportunities for women in America. #StateoftheWoman pic.twitter.com/ODdMv5vkOE

Why should I be “spirited and warm” for this embarrassment of a #SOTU?
Tonight was an unsettling night for our country. The president failed to offer any plan, any vision at all, for our future.
We’re flying without a pilot. And I‘m not here to comfort anyone about that fact. https://t.co/7bu3QXFMnC
