Girls and women across the country are struggling to create and envision a future for themselves. Project Glimmer, a nonprofit based in San Francisco, aims to influence that. Dedicated to inspiring “at-risk girls and women to believe in themselves by letting them know their community cares,” Project Glimmer held their 7th Annual Luncheon last week under the theme of #WorkYourMagic. San Francisco mayor London Breed and Wellness & Empowerment Advocate Sophia Roe spoke at the event, which was attended by many prominent women CEOs and Project Glimmer supporters such as Sonja Perkins (Founder of Project Glimmer & Broadway Angels), Julie Wainwright (CEO The RealReal), Marissa Shipman (CEO theBalm), and more.
Besides the annual luncheon, Project Glimmer holds multiple different events for young women at-risk. Core programs include:
- Work Your Magic, A Day of Empowerment: Only 50% of foster youth graduate high school, and only 3% from college. Project Glimmer’s Work Your Magic, A Day of Empowerment series lessens those odds giving foster youth and at-risk teenage girls an afternoon of workshops that build confidence, inner beauty and professional skills.
- Gift Giving: During critical times throughout the year, Project Glimmer fosters support and encouragement by giving meaningful gifts of beauty products, jewelry, accessories and wellness items to bring her confidence and the knowledge that her community believes in her.
- Community Building: Project Glimmer hosts ‘Boxing Joy’ volunteer events at our Bay Area warehouse each year to help us sort, gift box and distribute thousands of gifts. Our corporate volunteer program allows companies to plan volunteer events with their employees that foster team building and the spirit of giving back to the underserved young women in our communities.
