90s Fashion: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

90s Fashion: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

The fashion of the ‘90s is back! Everything that we love – and hate – from this stylishly outlandish decade has re-entered our fashion trend circuit. We’re excited about some styles, like the bright colors and patterns on streetwear, but there are others that should remain in the history books. Here are the styles we think should stay and others that we think should be left behind. Let us know what styles you like or dislike below!

Yes to: Bright colors and patterns

Move over pastels and neutrals, bold and neon colors are back! We’re loving the statement primary colors and outgoing patterns that are showing up in everyday wear. We think they especially work well for tops and outerwear.

Yes to: Unique sunglasses

For a while, classic black sunglasses with thick frames were the go-to sunnies. Now we’re seeing more sunglasses of different colors and frames. These sunglasses certainly aren’t the most practical, especially the narrow pairs, but these eccentric accessories transform every outfit instantly.

Yes to: Dad sneakers

The original dad sneaker of the ‘90s still isn’t attractive. But the modernized version updates the chunkiness of this infamous shoe, making it one of the most versatile footwear styles. A clean white sneaker with any outfit gives off a casual, yet put-together and polished vibe. It’s easily the most sensible closet staple on our list.

No to: Denim everything

Denim is one of the most popular and consistent fashion trends in history. But the saying, “everything in moderation,” rings true when considering how much denim to wear in one outfit. There simply needs to be a different component that breaks up any denim-on-denim outfit, like a simple top or turtleneck. Otherwise, it’s too overwhelming.

No to: Tube Tops

Although not all tube tops should be treated equally, the old school tube tops should remain in the ‘90s. Tube tops have evolved since then and come in so many different styles. However, the original tube top is incredibly difficult to wear and only accommodates to certain body types. It’s a glorified strapless bra that won’t stay in place, so it’s more than welcome to stay in the past.

No to: Fanny Packs

Fanny packs are odd. They are pouches that hang on the front or side of one’s body and can only hold so many items. In theory, fanny packs should be versatile. But nowadays, they are simply used as a fashion statement or for very situational events.
