The holidays never fails to bring out the most of classic of looks and colors that are iconic to the season. Red lipstick, for example, is the go-to lip color for any makeup look during this winter season. But there are plenty of other shades that are appropriate for all the holiday parties you’ll attend! Alyson shows us more:
Since the holiday season is in full swing, I’ve gotten some questions about what lipstick shades to choose during this time of year, so I thought I’d create a holiday lip color guide that you can easily refer to.
Whenever I think of holiday makeup, I automatically think of red, but there are other lipstick shades that are equally appropriate for the season and are just as versatile. Here are the 5 shades I wear during the holiday season:
- Nude
- Plum
- Fuchsia
- Red
- Burgundy
With a nude lip, it’s the easiest to apply and touch up — and it basically goes with everything. Just make sure you choose the right shade for your complexion.
Fuchsia’s are great all year round, but when I want an update to a classic red, this vibrant pink is a no-brainer. However, during this time of year, I try to stay away from the neon bright pinks.
For an instant holiday pick me up, I’m always going to choose red, preferably a deeper red. A general rule is to pick a red lipstick that matches your skin’s undertone (i.e. warmer reds flatter golden skin tones vs. cooler reds), but you can definitely choose whatever you like.
Darker lips have been a trend for the past couple years now and I love the way it instantly adds an edginess to my makeup look. If burgundy is too dark for you, plums are a nice option as well.
I hope this guide was helpful for you and feel free to share with your friends!
Btw, if you’re interested in the lipsticks I’m wearing, they’re the Laura Geller lipsticks I reviewed yesterday.
