According to the International Center for Prison Studies, one-third of the women incarcerated in the entire world are in the United States. That’s more that 200,000 women. These are sobering stats, which I will probably consider the next time I settle down to watch OITNB…let alone the next time I hear someone discuss prison reform and American incarceration rates.
