‘Orange Is The New Black’ Is Reality For Thousands Of Women

According to the International Center for Prison Studies, one-third of the women incarcerated in the entire world are in the United States.   That’s more that 200,000 women.   In the infographic below you can see some other statistics compiled by ColorofChange.org and Ultraviolet. These are sobering stats, which I will probably consider the next time I settle down to watch OITNB…let alone the next time I hear someone discuss prison reform and American incarceration rates.
