Now that a few days have passed – let’s talk about what really happened at Outside Lands. For those of you that missed the show or have never heard about Outside Lands, it’s a three day music festival that takes place in Golden Gate Park. That’s right, three incredible days of music, art and surprisingly enough some incredibly great food and wine.
Kanye’s Crazy Moment
Yes, Kanye is a great performer. I’m not really sure who he is as a person but as a performer he always on point. It’s not unusual for Kanye to have some bizarre moments during his act; I’ve seen him do it several times at various shows. At Outside Lands he stopped mid-performance several times to scold the audience for not creating mosh pits and to acknowledge his ‘baby mama’…all because he could. After all Outside Lands was, “no radio shit or concierge” and because he is Yeezus.
Favorite Get Up
I can’t help it. I love Game of Thrones. When one of our friends showed up as Tyrion Lannister’s face, I was excited to see Tyrion show up so tall at Outside Lands. Obviously, Tryion Lannister’s personality is so big on the show that height is a non-issue…but at Outside Lands height is a plus. Oh, another idea, get on shoulders to see the performers better.
Awesome Backstage Moment
I slipped away from my friends to catch a performer I had heard a lot about. Jenny Lewis. She played “The New You,” one of my favorite tracks from her new album The Voyager. She tipped her hat to her fans who knew her when by playing “A Better Son/Daughter” from her old group Rilo Kiley. A cute backstage moment was when a gopher popped out of its hole to check out the commotion.
Best Discovery
Twin Peeks is my favorite stage at Outside Lands and had some incredible acts. I realize the indie rock/indie pop Tegan and Sara have been around for a hot minute, but it was the first time I had seen them. I loved them. The twin sisters have big vocals laid over a synth pop sound. When I found out they were Canadian it was a done deal for me. How do you say no to cool Canadians?
